Terminology

BAM: A suit, short for bamboo, consists of 40 tiles = 36 numbered tiles (1-9, four of each) - plus four matching green dragons.

BLANK TILES: Blanks are used to discreetly exchange a “discarded” or a “dead” tile from the mat. Often called “zombie” tiles.

CHOW: Three tiles in consecutive number order from the same suit.

COURTESY PASS: Players determine how many of the three unwanted tiles to courtesy pass with the person across. Up to three tiles may be exchanged.

CRAK: A suit, short for character, consists of 40 tiles = 36 numbered tiles (1-9, four of each) - plus four matching red dragons.

DOT: consists of 40 tiles = 36 numbered tiles (1-9, four of each) - plus four matching white dragons, also known as Soap.

DRAGON TILES: appear as a “D” on the card.
appears as “D” on the card. Green = Bams, Red = Craks, White (“Soap”) = Dots.

Exception: Soap is a neutral tile when played as a Zero (O).

EAST: Dealer is referred to as East and discards the first tile to begin the game.

FLOWER TILES: appear as an “F” on the card; 8 flower tiles total. Flowers are always played as neutral, even though the flower tiles can appear artistically different.

KONG: Any four tiles that are exactly alike. 

JOKER EXCHANGE: When exposed tiles include jokers, the jokers may be exchanged with the exact tile identified in the exposure. The exchange happens only a players turn before the player discards.

PAIR: Any two identical tiles.

PUNG: Any three identical tiles.

SINGLE: An individual tile.

SUIT: Three suits - Bams, Craks and Dots. Each suit has 40 tiles. 36 numbered tiles - four of each tile 1-9 - plus four matching dragons.
